COVID-19 Communiques

To Our Valued Clients

We hope you and your family are keeping safe and well.

As you may have heard, last week’s announcement by the provincial government has deemed lawyers to be considered an “essential service”.

We continue to be open and available albeit with a modified work routine.  Accordingly, we ask for your patience as it may take a little more time to respond if you are attempting to contact us.  Also, in order to allow for as much social distancing as possible, we will not be conducting in person appointments unless critically needed, however we are ready and able to assist you by video (e.g. Zoom) or telephone conference.

Going forward with your file given the current COVID-19 crisis, all courts have been closed to non-urgent matters indefinitely and all matters adjourned until after June 2020.  All deadlines for any steps to be taken under the rules of the court as well as any limitation periods have in general been suspended.  Matters which are currently considered urgent are:

  • Urgent and time-sensitive motions and applications in civil and commercial list matters; where immediate and significant financial repercussions may result if there is no judicial hearing.
  • Outstanding warrants issued in relation to a Small claims Court or Superior Court civil proceeding.

This means that unfortunately your matter has been adjourned with a date to be fixed once the courts reopen.  We will keep you posted as matters develop.

As you may have heard, last week’s announcement by the provincial government has deemed lawyers to be considered an “essential service”.  As we continue to monitor reports of the impact of COVID-19 we want to assure you that Sweatman Law remains committed to delivering outstanding support to our clients.

We continue to be open and available albeit with a modified work routine.  Accordingly, we ask for your patience as it may take a little more time to respond if you are attempting to contact us.  Also, in order to allow for as much social distancing as possible, we will not be conducting in person appointments unless critically needed however are ready and able to assist you by video (e.g. Zoom) or telephone conference.

During this evolving health situation, the safety and well-being of our team members, clients, and families is our main priority.  We care about our communities and want to do our part to keep you healthy, keep our employees healthy and help minimize the spread of the virus.  In that spirit we have been implementing online methods of meeting with you and are available by email, phone, and videoconferencing (e.g. Zoom) to meet with you.   Our Oakville location remains open to receive and pick up documents.  Our Georgetown, Clarkson and Milton locations have dropboxes (please contact us for the details).

We are still working on your file and where the signing of documents is needed, we will reach out to confirm the best process that works for you and our current situation.  We look forward to continuing to work with you and supporting you in these difficult times.
